Ryan loves to perform both solo and ensemble works for the steel pan, as well as arranging and composing. Born and raised in Novi Michigan, he attended Michigan State University, where he studied classical percussion with Gwendolyn Dease and Jon Weber. After completing his bachelor’s degree in Percussion Performance in 2021, he moved to New York City to attend NYU Steinhardt. At NYU he earned a Master’s degree and an Artist Diploma Certificate. While at NYU he studied with Kendall Williams, Jonathan Haas, Sean Statser, and James Saporito. While in New York City Ryan fell in love with the steel pan. He has performed with and arranged for the NYU steel band, and he also became a member of Pan in Motion. Pan in Motion is a professional steel band and education organization in Brooklyn. While with Pan in Motion, Ryan performed and competed throughout NYC, highlighted by the group winning the People’s Choice Award at Panorama in 2022 and 2023, as well as finishing fourth in 2023. Ryan is also passionate about teaching percussion and hopes on day to teach at a university. While at NYU he was the teaching assistant for the Steel Band and the Percussion Chamber Music Ensemble, and he also taught non-major lessons as a graduate adjunct. Ryan is currently a Doctoral student at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
